When Do Haunted Houses Begin to Open in Texas?

If you look forward to going to a haunted house every year, you may want to start going as earlier this year to have time to visit more than one. When October is just around the corner, you tend to see billboards advertising the different haunted houses that are opening in your area. In fact, they may seem like they are opening overnight. Many haunted houses work year-round to develop new ways to scare visitors so you will want to come back next year and not see the same thing, but they are only open during the Halloween season.

Haunted House Openings

Most haunted houses in Texas will open the first weekend in October. How they open after that is going to be entirely up to them. Some will stick to weekends until the week of Halloween, when they will open every night that week, as well as a couple of days after Halloween.

Some of the more popular haunted houses may open as early as mid-September. This will work in your favor if you want to go back and visit a different part of the haunted house if you didn’t get to see everything the first time.

The earlier in the season you go, the less time the haunted house will be open for. During the first weekend, they may only be open for a couple of hours. The closer they get to Halloween, haunted houses are likely to close at midnight on the Fridays and Saturdays, as well as Halloween night, but close a couple hours earlier in the middle of the week. Just make sure you get there with plenty of time to explore everything the haunted house has to offer so you aren’t rushed to see everything before a 10 pm deadline.

Best Time to Visit a Haunted House

Deciding to go to a haunted house is going to be based on a few different factors. Since most of them are only open on weekends for a large part of the time, it may take awhile before your group of friends can pick a day to all go together. If this is the case, it’s better to wait for everyone, since they will make the experience that much  better.

The closer you get to Halloween, the busier haunted houses will be. This may be what some people prefer, but you don’t necessarily want to see what the next big scare is by what happens to the group in front of you. If you wait until closer to Halloween, consider going the week leading up to it. The middle of the week is going to have less people than what they see on the weekends.
